What Does Proctorio Actually Record? Screen, Webcam, Audio & Extension Logs (2026)
Before starting a Proctorio quiz, students see a long permissions list requesting screen capture, webcam, microphone, clipboard, and tab access. Here is what Proctorio actually records and when recording stops.
When Proctorio starts and stops recording
Proctorio only records while you are actively inside the proctored quiz attempt in Chrome. As soon as you submit the exam and close the quiz tab (or uninstall/disable the extension after the exam), Proctorio cannot record your webcam or screen.
Why Chrome extensions get caught immediately by Proctorio
During the pre-exam check, Proctorio queries Chrome's extension management API (`chrome.management`) and forces you to disable other extensions. Any tool that lives inside Chrome is exposed before Question 1 even loads.
How Evadely works alongside Proctorio on macOS
Evadely is a native macOS desktop application, not a Chrome extension. It never appears in Chrome's extension list, does not inject HTML into the quiz tab, and its overlay is excluded from macOS screen capture.
Frequently asked questions
Can Proctorio see native macOS apps outside Chrome?
A Chrome extension is sandboxed inside the browser and cannot enumerate native macOS processes the way a full kernel client would, and Evadely's overlay is excluded from screen capture.
