Can Blackboard Ultra Detect Switching Tabs, Copy-Paste, or AI Overlays? (2026)
Both Blackboard Original and Blackboard Ultra log student activity during timed tests. Just like Canvas, Blackboard uses browser focus events to see if you clicked away from the test tab.
How Blackboard tracks tab switches
When you click another tab, open a new browser window, or click into a split-screen app, the browser fires a focus-loss event that Blackboard can record in the attempt log. When paired with Respondus LockDown Browser, Proctorio, or Honorlock, additional proctor restrictions apply.
Using Evadely with Blackboard exams
Evadely's non-activating overlay floats above Blackboard (whether in a standard browser or inside Respondus LockDown Browser) without ever stealing window focus, so you can capture questions with Cmd+S or use hold-to-solve cleanly.
Frequently asked questions
Does Evadely work when Blackboard launches Respondus LockDown Browser?
Yes. Evadely's native desktop overlay supports Respondus LockDown Browser sessions launched from Blackboard on both macOS and Windows 11.
